Mulan is definitely one of the most loved Disney Princesses and the only Asian one so far… until now!
Disney just announced their next animated film titled Raya and the Last Dragon, that will be a fantasy adventure with a Southeast-Asian theme And the best part? The movie will have Malaysian screenwriter, Adele Lim (that previously wrote for Crazy Rich Asians) on board to write the movie!
The movie tells the tale of “a reimagined earth inhabited by an ancient civilisation” in a realm called Lumandra, where five clans form the land of the dragon and the main character Raya, is determined to find the last surviving dragon, Sisu!
The preview of the footage shows a beautiful jungle glowing under the layers of rain and fog with the voice-over saying:
“Our world was created by dragons, before they left, they hid a gift for the people. A powerful but dangerous gift. One that could save an entire kingdom or bring it to an end. The question is what will we find? Hope or destruction?”
Raya will be played by Cassie Steele and Awkwafina will play the water dragon Sisu, described as a water dragon that’s “not like any other dragon that you’ve seen before.”
Former SMK (P) Sri Aman graduate Adele Lim, shared her excitement on Instagram and fans are eager to see some Southeast-Asian elements in a movie that will be kept visually authentic by Thai storyboard artist, Fawn Veerasunthorn!
