With movies such as Jaws, The Shallows and The Meg, people are bound to be afraid of sharks. Who wouldn’t? We don’t want to have 15 rows of shark teeth sink into our flesh and drag us out into the deep sea.

Well, sharks are actually not that scary. Here are four myths and misconceptions about sharks and Mr Meg…

#1 Human blood are a shark’s favourite

False.

“Shark can smell your blood from a mile away and it will come for you!” Cue epic Jaws approaching soundtrack. This is actually false and the MythBusters have already busted this myth in 2008. Don’t believe us? Watch this test for yourself.

#2 Sharks are human-killing machines

Not True.

Unless sharks have hands to hold a machine gun, this is totally not true. According to Sharkopedia, sharks kill around six people per year while humans kill up to 100 million sharks per year! Most of these shark attack incidences are usually the case of misidentification. They find humans disgusting anyway.

#3 Shark fin soup is good for your health

False.

Research has proven this untrue. Shark fin soup doesn’t have magical powers that can prevent cancer. It may be even more harmful to the human body as it contains high levels of mercury.

#4 Megalodon is out there!

Totally False.

Calm down kids! The Meg is just a movie. It went extinct 2.6 million years ago due to change in the environment. Scientists have confirmed that there’s absolutely no chance that the Megalodon is still out there.

You can watch The Meg in peace now knowing that it’s all fake.
