There's no one who wants to see the return of John Constantine more than the person who played John Constantine himself, Keanu Reeves.

The actor recently shared that John Constantine would be on top of his list of characters he'd love to revisit.

While speaking to Stephen Colbert about The Matrix Resurrections, the 57-year-old actor was asked if there were any characters he wanted to return to that wasn't already in the works.

"I would love to be John Constantine again," he said.

As exciting as it may sound, it’s not going to be that easy, unfortunately.

When the host pressed on the subject, Keanu noted that he hasn't had much luck with getting a sequel made.

"I've tried," he admitted to the collectively sad reaction of the studio audience. "I would love to."

Constantine director Francis Lawrence told Slash Film last year that he had spoken to Keanu and producer Akiva Goldsman about doing a sequel for the film.

"I think we all wanted to do it. It was successful enough. We wanted to make a responsible, more R-rated movie," the director said. "What I really liked about the first one was it was a really personal story, so I thought it'd be a mistake to get caught up in the supernatural gobbledygook.”

"We have been talking about it recently,” he added. “It's always stuck with all of us because we all love the movie, and especially realising there's a real cult following for this movie, it'd be fun to make. Keanu, Akiva, and I have actually talked about it."

The director explained that Constantine is part of Vertigo, which is a part of the DC universe. So, there are issues with working out who to approach to get the green light for the sequel.

Francis added that it hasn't been a lack of trying on their part.

"We all investigated it, but I think it's kind of crazy when you have Keanu, who would love to do another Constantine, and us wanting to do another Constantine, and people are like, 'Uh, no, we got other plans'. We'll see what happens," he said.

There were rumors going around last year that Constantine 2 is in the works and will potentially hit theaters in the near future. It started when Peter Stormare, an actor who starred in the movie alongside Keanu Reeves, as Lucifer, claimed on his Instagram post: "Sequel in the works."

So…is it really happening?? We want answers!

Despite all the rumors, there has been no official announcement that the sequel is actually happening…

What do you think? Should Constantine get a sequel with Keanu Reeves? Let us know!
