Houston, prepare for liftoff of the very first movie shot in space!

We’ve seen movies based in space, or about space or even about people in space, but those have all been shot in studios on Earth. Now, we’re about to break a new boundary by shooting the very first movie in space!

According to recent reports, NASA and Tom Cruise are in talks about working on a movie that’s shot in outer space.

Deadline was the first to break the news that the actor would be working with Tesla and SpaceX entrepreneur Elon Musk to make the “first narrative feature film – an action adventure - to be shot in outer space.”

Shortly after, NASA themselves tweeted to confirm that they indeed would be working with the Mission Impossible actor for this mission to shoot a movie on the International Space Station.

“Nasa is excited to work with Tom Cruise on a film aboard the Space Station!” Nasa administrator Jim Bridenstine tweeted. “We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make Nasa’s ambitious plans a reality.”

No other details have been revealed about the movie, so we do not know when the project will first liftoff, but we’ll keep you updated.

Elon Musk has yet to officially confirm his role in the history-making event but he did reply to Jim Bridenstine’s tweet by saying, “Should be a lot of fun!”

According to Deadline, “It’s not a Mission Impossible film and no studio is in the mix at this stage.”

We’re super excited for this project to liftoff and we can’t wait to see how the space movie will turn out, especially with Tom Cruise on board!

One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind!

What are your thoughts on the first movie shot in space? Is Tom Cruise the best person to complete this mission? We sure think so! Let us know your thoughts!
