2015 was the year when Sony and Marvel struck a deal to share the Spider-Man films rights, giving us the Spider-Man played by Tom Holland that we've all come to love today… but Sony could be taking Spidey back!

A recent report states that if the latest Spider-Man: Far From Home movie doesn’t make a billion dollars, Sony can break free from the deal with Marvel Studios!

“The original Sony/Marvel/Spidey deal to co-produce these movies stipulated that if this Spidey cleared a billion, Marvel would get to oversee a third. If it hadn’t, full control would have reverted back to Sony,” wrote journalist Richard Rushfield.

The deal between Sony and Marvel allows Sony to distribute and have final creative control over the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies where Spider-Man is the main character while Disney distributes the ones where he’s not.

What will happen if Sony takes Spider-Man back? Will we finally get to see Spider-Man and Venom in one movie? Will Andrew Garfield reprise his role as the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man?

One thing is for sure, Far From Home has yet to cross the one-billion-dollar mark but have already made over $600 million in its first week, so hitting the billion-dollar mark might not be a problem after all.

Marvel and Sony still have one more solo Spider-Man movie together with Tom Holland in it. Tom revealed that he is on board for three solo Spider-Man movies and three appearances in other MCU movie.

What are your thoughts on the deal and what do you think will happen if Sony reclaims the full rights for Spider-Man? Let us know!
