The Star Wars saga is coming to an end with its next episode, The Rise of Skywalker.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, the upcoming movie is set to be released on 20th December. According to the director, the new installment begins sometime after The Last Jedi where we last saw Leia Organa’s Resistance movement forced to be on the run and battered by the First Order.

For those of you who remember well, you’ll also know that the last episode saw the death of Luke Skywalker after a showdown with his nephew, Kylo Ren. Kylo also managed to kill the leader of the First Order, Supreme Leader Snoke.

The trailer hints at the return of one of Star Wars’ most notorious villain. As Luke Skywalker says, “No one’s ever really gone.”

And that seems to be the case for Emperor Palpatine, whose iconic cackle can be heard at the end of the trailer.

The Rise of Skywalker will bring Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher – through footage from The Force Awakens, back together. Billy Dee Williams will also be reprising his role as Lando Calrissian.

Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domnhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, Billie Lourd and Anthony Daniels are also set to reprise their respective roles for the sequel trilogy.
