Chris Evans Confirms He’ll Never Play Captain America Again

If you love Chris Evans as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), well we have bad news for you.

While the character’s journey has seemingly ended in Avengers: Endgame, fans are still hoping that Chris will return to play Captain America, but he confirmed that his time as Cap is over.

In an interview on The Graham Norton Show, Chris told the late-night host that his time as Captain America is over because the risk of returning would be too risky after it ended on a high note.

"Yes, I think it is," he said when asked if his time as Cap is over. "It was a great run and we went out on such a high note that it would be risky to revisit it in my opinion. It was such a good experience and I think it's better left that way."

Chris’ response is more elaborated than the one that was previously said in an interview with Scarlett Johansson, on him returning to play the character.

“To Marvel? Wow. Everything clicks when I get up,” he said. “Recovery is not the same. You never say never. I love the character. I don’t know.”
 

“It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either,” he continued. “There are other things that I’m working on right now. I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey.”

“If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab. It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited. What are we revealing? What are we adding to the story? A lot of things would have to come together. “It doesn’t feel, at this time, that would be a thing.”

“It’d be a shame to sour that,” he said of Steve’s ending. “I’m very protective of it. It was such a precious time, and jumping onto the movie was a terrifying prospect to me. I said no a bunch of times, and there’s a million and one ways it could have gone wrong. It almost feels like maybe we should let this one sit.”

Fans are heartbroken over the reveal, but many understood his reason for doing so and agree that the character’s ending should not be reopened.

His story was told, and closed off beautifully. Let this iteration of Cap rest.

his story is done, his shield has been passed on, not to mention he's an old man now. Nothing to return to, unless it was some "back in time" thing. They gotta focus on the future, to try and somewhat keep up with themselves

He shouldn't. His Captain America's story is finished and it ended very well. Maybe in the future for a small cameo or another time travel scene but I prefer they leave his characters story how it ended.
