For those of you who haven't had a chance to watch Bird Box, slight spoilers ahead! Look away now if you're still planning to see it soon!
The new horror movie sees the world being subjected to a devastating attack from a malevolent force. When seen by the naked eye, the force causes people to be so traumatised that they end up committing suicide, usually in a very gruesome way.
But one major thing that viewers may have noticed is that we never see the creature that's causing all the devastation!

Director, Susanne Bier, revealed why we never lay eyes on the creature in a recent interview with Bloody Disgusting. She noted that illustrating everyone's deepest fears with a "concrete shape" would render it "almost meaningless."
"Whatever those beings are, they tap into your deepest fear. Everybody's deepest fear is going to be different from the other person," Susanne said. "I think to suddenly take upon a concrete shape in order to illustrate it is kind of almost meaningless. So it would have been the wrong decision."

The movie's screenwriter, Eric Heisserer, added that "There was a time when one of the producers was like, 'No, you have to see something at some point' and forced me to write essentially a nightmare sequence where Malorie experiences one in that house."
However, the finished creature wasn't scary at the least. Sandra Bullock who plays Malorie, described it as "snake-like" and a "long fat baby." The actress claimed that its appearance was like "a green man with a horrific baby face."

Susanne noted that "It so easily becomes funny. We actually shot that and spent a lot of energy on it, but every time I saw it, I was like 'This is not going to be tense, it's just going to be funny.'"
"At first, Sandy was like, 'I don't want to see it' because she thought it was scary. Then it was like, 'Don't show it to me because [I'll laugh]," the director said. "Every time I did it, I was like, 'S***, that's a different film."
Well, now we know why we haven't seen the creatures. What shape do you think the creature will take on for you?
