The Hunger Games film series may have ended back in 2015 but fans of the book and movies are still waiting for more… and we’re officially getting more Hunger Games!
A Hunger Games prequel movie is officially in development at Lionsgate and will be based on author Suzanna Collins’ upcoming book titled The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes!
The book that’s set to be release on 19 May 2020 will be adapted into a movie with original film series director Francis Lawrence returning to helm the project, and Michael Arndt set to write the script. Original producer Nina Jacobson will also return to produce the prequel with Brad Simpson.
The spin-off/prequel book will focus on Coriolanus Snow at the age of 18, years before he becomes the president of Panem as he was picked to be a mentor for the 10th annual Hunger Games. Elation turns to disdain when he realizes the female tribute he's assigned hails from District 12.
“Their fates are now completely intertwined — every choice Coriolanus makes could lead to favor, failure, and death. Inside the arena, it will be a fight to the death. Outside the arena, Coriolanus starts to feel for his doomed tribute . . . and must weigh his need to follow the rules against his desire to survive no matter what it takes,” the synopsis reads.
Author Suzanna, who will be the executive producer of the prequel, said that she’s delighted to work with Lionsgate once again and that “they have treated the source material with great respect, honouring the thematic and narrative elements of the story” from the beginning.
“It’s such a pleasure to be reuniting with Nina, Francis, and Michael to adapt the novel to the screen, and having them share their remarkable talents, once again, with the world of Panem. I look forward to collaborating with them and all at Lionsgate as we bring The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes to theaters worldwide.”
