As reported in The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros has been testing actresses to star opposite Margot as Black Canary and Huntress. Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jurnee Smolett-Bell and Janelle Monae are reported to be in the running to play Black Canary, sources said.

Meanwhile, Margaret Qualley, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Cristin Milioti are in contention to take on the role of Huntress. The studio is also casting for detective Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain.

Cathy Yan is set to direct the movie and Margot will also be hard at work behind the scenes as a producer for the film.

Collider reported that Margot has spoken in the past about her plans for the upcoming movie, explaining the desire for seeing a girl gang hit the screen.

"I pitched the idea of an R-rated girl gang film including Harley, because I was like, 'Harley needs friends.' Harley loves interacting with people, so don't ever make her do a standalone film. She's got to be with other people, it should be a girl gang. I wasn't seeing enough girl gangs on screen, especially in the action space. So that was always a big part of it."

Harley Quinn will be up against Black Mask, who has been confirmed as the film's villain.

Are you excited for 2020?
