Father and son inspirational marathon movie

Do you ever get annoyed at your dad? Like, why is he constantly nagging at you about being careful or cracking those outdated puns all the time?

Well, Asian fathers aren’t usually known for being pro communicators and open with their feelings. And sometimes, it seems like they’re being kinda harsh by stopping you from doing some of the things you enjoy, but they do have your best interest at heart—just like Xiao Daming and Xiao Erdong in the movie On Your Mark.

Prepare your tissues because the On Your Mark trailer is a tearjerker!

On Your Mark is directed by Malaysian filmmaker and award-winning director, Chiu Keng Guan, who also directed Ola Bola!

It’s set in China and the lead characters are played by Wang YanHui as Daming and Zhang You Hao as Erdong. The story begins when Erdong’s mother passes away from a disease and his father, Daming, realises that Erdong might have inherited the same disease, which causes blindness!

To prevent Erdong from experiencing potential heartache and disappointment caused by the looming blindness, his father goes all out to block Erdong from achieving his dream of running a marathon. Instead, he spends time training his son to do things without sight.

Of course, you might have guessed it… this causes a huge rebellion in Erdong. He gets pissed at his father for hindering his ambition, although he’d been nothing but a good son who’d do whatever his dad says.

Then cue the inspirational part of the movie because Daming eventually realises that instead of being in Erdong’s way, he should help him instead. As the father and son find a common purpose, the relationship immediately improves.

Daming dedicates him time to work hard so that he can run alongside Erdong in the marathon! You can see just how awesome a father’s love truly is… even if they don’t show it in the gentlest of ways.

It’s no wonder this movie heart-warming movie topped the Chinese box office on its opening day in June. They earned RM8.7 million in one day too!
