Fans have been eagerly waiting for the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse after the first movie was released in 2018 and production has officially begun!
Sony Imageworks lead animator Nick Kondo took it to Twitter to announced that the project has been kicked off for sequel with the caption, “first day on the job!”.
The sequel will be focused on the growing relationship between the lead character Miles Morales and the Spider-Woman from another dimension, Gwen Stacy.
Fans are hoping to see Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man from the live-action movies be featured in the sequel too!
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2 is scheduled for a 2022 release with Joaquim Dos Santos as the director will be based on a script from David Callaham.
The first movie tells the origin story of how Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) became Spider-Man while trying to save and restore the multiverse alongside Spider-People from other dimensions.
Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Chris Pine, Nicolas Cage, John Mulaney, and Kimiko Glenn voiced the different versions of Spider-People in the 2018 movie.
The movie was highly praised for its animation for won multiple awards including Best Animated Feature at the Oscars.
