It’s not unknown that things are a mess right now with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. The sequel, which was highly anticipated by Marvel fans (and Chris Pratt fans) everywhere, has been shrouded in controversy since Disney sacked director, James Gunn.

The recent news around town is that the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3’s production has been halted because there isn’t a director attached to it now—though Disney is currently on the search for a replacement director.

Well, if you were among those shipping Taika Waititi as James Gunn’s replacement when the news broke, you might have your wish granted. According to THR, Marvel Studios met with Taika right after Disney fired James. However, at the moment, it’s not clear what project was discussed during the meeting.

We don’t think Taika is a bad choice at all. Thor: Ragnarok is known as the best instalment of Thor so far, and Taika’s eccentric humour would vibe really well with the Guardians series Gunn has already set up.

The only problem is that Taika, Disney and Marvel are at risk of major fan-backlash. Not only did the stars of Guardians sign an open letter asking for James to be reinstated, fans have also carried on the revolt, with Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in Guardians, fuelling the rally by showing support for James on Twitter.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out.
