Marvel fans have been left in the dark after production for many upcoming MCU series were halted due to the pandemic, but Marvel just dropped a new trailer for WandaVision!
The new trailer for WandaVision sees Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprising their roles as Wanda Maximoff and Vision in which their world is set in a compilation of sitcom series and the couple is happily married.
While Vision is last known to be dead after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, the android is somehow alive, but seems unaware that he had died, suggesting that the series takes place in a reality warping world formed by Scarlet Witch’s ability!
Multiple easters eggs were quick to be noticed by Marvel comic book fans, including details from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Avengers, X-Men and some reference to the comics too! Here are some of the easter eggs:
#Comic Book Reference
A few scenes from the trailer shows references to the comic books, with Wanda and Vision getting married and two other scenes showing the couple wearing costumes that are accurate to their looks from the original comic books.
#X-Men/House of M
A scene from the trailer shows Wanda levitating a bottle with her powers and the name of the bottle “Maison du Mépris" which translates to “House of Contempt”, with a letter M on the bottle neck.
“House of M” follows the story where Wanda loses her mind and control of her powers, turning the world into one where mutants are the dominating species and her family, namely her father Magneto, rules the world.
Could this be how Marvel introduces mutants into the MCU? Guess we'll have to wait and see!
#Twin Babies
Wanda and Vision were seen holding twin babies in one scene, a reference to the “House of M” story too when Scarlet Witch unknowingly created baby versions of herself and Vision using magic, but ultimately loses them when they vanish after the truth of their origins were revealed to Wanda.
The event made her lose her mind and desperately use her powers to change reality to get the twins back, leading to the events of “House of M”.
#Reality Warping
Scarlet Witch is seen using her reality warping power to change the environment in one scene, marking the first time the character uses powers that the comic book version uses for the first time in the MCU.
#Agatha Harkness
Actress Kathryn Hahn’s character was seen in many scenes in the trailer, in one scene where she asked Vision if she’s dead because he is, indicating she knows what’s going on with reality.
Her character suggests that she’s Agatha Harkness, a witch that acted as Wanda’s mentor in the comics, and guided her in the events of “House of M”. Fans speculate that Scarlet visited her after Avengers: Endgame and ended up learning magic that rips the fabric of reality and creates the world that the series takes place in.
#S.W.O.R.D.
Military perimeters were seen being set up outside the boundaries of the WandaVision world and it looks like they intend to contain her powers and break the world made from her powers.
The military is said to be a part of the Sentient World Observation and Response Department (S.W.O.R.D.), an intelligence agency seen in the space station Nick Fury was in in the post credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From Home.
#Monica Rambeau
Teyonah Parris were previously confirmed to be playing Monica Rambeau, the child from Captain Marvel who is now grown up and seems to be working for S.W.O.R.D. too.
Monica possesses powers similar to Carol Denvers’, and seeing how she got hurled out of Wanda’s reality without looking phased, it seems like she already has the same powers that her comic book character possess.
The entire trailer might look confusing to fans that aren’t familiar with the comic book storylines, but seeing how the story will eventually lead to the events of the upcoming Doctor Strange In The Multiverse of Madness, it looks like the series will be filled with much madness and mind bending elements as fans expect!
