When Justice League was first released in 2017 as DC Comics’ answer to Marvel’s Avengers, it turned out to be quite an unfortunate flop because all people could remember was Henry Cavill’s moustache (or lack thereof) situation.
The original director, Zack Snyder, had a mega vision for the film. But he had to step down in the middle of post-production after the passing of his daughter. Joss Whedon (who directed the first two Avengers movies) was hired to complete Justice League as an uncredited director.

He monitored multiple reshoots and changes that brought in more humour and a lighter tone, which were proven to be successful in Marvel films. However, the fifth film of the DC Extended Universe was a critical and commercial failure.
A couple of years later, diehard Snyder fans began to petition for the director to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. Even Gal Gadot, Ben Affleck and Ray Fisher used the same hashtag on the second anniversary of the film.
Thanks to their dedication, we now have Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which is basically the director’s cut of what’s now known as the theatrical version of the same film.
Like the theatrical release, the Snyder cut follows the Justice League which consists of Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, Aquaman, and the Flash as they attempt to save the world from Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons.
So what can we expect from this highly anticipated director’s cut? Let’s take a look—we’ll try not to spoil anything.
It’s incredibly long
4 hours long, to be exact. While the basic skeleton of the film remains the same, Snyder has added dozens of new scenes, backstories, characters, and elements that will make it feel like a completely new movie. He didn’t even use the scenes that Whedon had shot for the theatrical version! So we’re in for a wild superhero ride.
We see more of the Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman

From the original release, many complaints mentioned that Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman were more highlighted compared to the other superheroes. Other favourites felt more like the supporting cast rather than part of the Justice League. In Snyder’s Cut, we can expect more unseen footage and backstories of the Flash (including his love interest Iris West), Cyborg and Aquaman.
Jared Leto’s Joker makes an appearance

This comes as a surprise because Jared Leto’s Joker wasn’t seen in the theatrical release. The singer-actor had to return to shoot new scenes with Snyder, which were part of the director’s original vision. As you can see in the teaser image, this Joker looks very different from the way we remember him in Suicide Squad. As if he can’t get any darker, we can look forward to seeing another side of Batman’s nemesis.
Megavillains Darkseid and DeSaad come out to play

While the Justice League will still be fighting Steppenwolf and his minions, Snyder’s cut will see villains like Darkseid (who’s actually Steppenwolf’s boss) and his lieutenant DeSaad, who were cut off from the 2017 release.
Superman in a black suit

Let’s try to forget Superman’s embarrassing moustache moment from the theatrical version and prepare to see his scenes that Snyder had originally shot, which includes him in a black suit, one of the most famous alternate costumes in the comic world.
The final battle

A lot of people really didn’t like how the climactic battle between the Justice League and Steppenwolf was done previously. The whole orange-red-scarlet look and feel just didn’t cut it. Thankfully, Snyder’s final battle will be seen in the original colour tone.
