2018 is set to be an amazing year for Awkwafina! After starring in Ocean's 8 and Crazy Rich Asians, the actress is set to take on another iconic role. She’s going to be the first female Asian host on Saturday Night Live (SNL) in 18 years!
Fun fact: the last Asian woman to host SNL was Lucy Liu way back in December 2000, where Jay Z appeared as the musical guest.
An official announcement was made via SNL's Twitter account, where a photo of a cork board filled with post-its listing the first three hosts and musical acts of the upcoming season was posted.
What’s more epic, Awkwafina’ll not only take on the role of first Asian woman SNL host in 18 years, but also the only woman in the lineup for the first three weeks of the season! Needless to say, she’s very excited.
And she’s not the only one. SNL alum and upcoming host, Seth Meyers, said, "Awkwafina is gonna kill it!!!!!" An endorsement by a former SNL head writer and seasoned player on the show is a huge deal!
Awkwafina's fans can’t help but share their excitement on Twitter as well.
Are you excited to see Awkwafina add SNL host to her impressive 2018 portfolio?
