While turning 21 is seen as a huge milestone in many people’s lives, turning 22 is another big stepping stone.
For Camila Cabello, turning 22 meant reflecting on the memories and lessons that she’s learnt over the past year.

The singer recently turned 22 and decided to impart some wisdom of her biggest life lessons to her social media followers. She filled up two pages of notes that touch on important matters like love, family, self and the importance of bubble baths.

Here are some of the lessons Camila has learnt over the past year:
1. Call your family!! Call your parents, your siblings. Every time I see my little sister, she looks different. She’s an inch taller, she uses words I didn’t know she knew, she listens to songs I didn’t expect her to. Little kids in the family show me how fast time is actually passing, you can see it in them physically. Call your parents. We forget they’re getting older too.
2. Ask your grandparents about their lives. Ask them so many questions. They’re walking storybooks.

3. Life. Is. Hard. It’s complicated. It’s messy. No amount of inspiring quotes, self-improvement books, positive thinking, or meditation can shield you from that (though they do help). Relationships are complicated!!!!!!! The right opportunity comes at the wrong time, you have to do something hard and uncomfortable to be happy (?!!!) Life is filled with opposites and ironies that make me think God is up there laughing at us all the time. None of it makes sense. The quicker you stop trying to make sense of it and just laugh at the absurdity of it, the happier you’ll be.
4. In most situations you’ll realize: “Nothing is good or bad. Only thinking makes it so.” Look for the bad in a situation and you’ll find it, look for the good in the same situation and you’ll also find it. If being this way doesn’t come naturally to you, you have to literally make a conscious effort/train your brain to find the opportunity in every sucky situation, it’ll change your life overnight.

5. No feeling compares to falling in love. It makes sense- all the movies, the stories, the songs. It IS the most intoxication, consuming feeling that exists. Even when other things are just as important, I don’t think any feeling compares to the intensity of it.
6. If you haven’t ever been in love, fall in love with your life, find out what makes your heart race, read, travel, learn, listen – and it’ll find you.

7. Taking a hot bubble bath in your 20s is a spiritual experience and the level at which I enjoy it is the most adulty thing I’ve ever felt!!!!!!

8. I can’t tell you the amount of times my dad told me “I blinked and I was almost 50.” That’s terrifying to me. (Also, how about this for even more terrifying? No one knows if they’ll even get to 50.) Life is too short to hang out with people you don’t like, be in relationships with people that don’t make you happy, or do things you hate. I think fear is actually an important feeling. You should be afraid of wasting your time.
9. Find time to read and I promise you you’ll fall in love with it. Reading is out only way to live 100 lives in one.
10. Always keep it moving, even if you don’t know where you’re going. If you wait to be sure about everything, you’ll never do anything. I’ve learned you have to create your own momentum when you’re stuck. Just do something, it’ll make sense later.
Just 10 lessons and already we’re learning a lot. Check out all 22 lessons that Camila listed here:
We think that these lessons are applicable for everyone. It doesn’t matter what age you are, they’ll definitely come in handy!
