We see an Ed Sheeran shaped-hole in our lives on the horizon as the singer has just announced that he’ll be taking a break from music.

After spending the two years on his Divide Tour, Ed held his final show at the Chantry Park in Ipswich, England.

The singer who has been on tour since March 2017, told fans at the show that he’ll be taking a long hiatus presumably to spend time with his family and wife, Cherry Seaborn, whom he married in December 2018.

“As you may or may not know, I’ve been on the Divide tour for over two years now and this is the last day of the whole thing,” he said. “There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich. This is my last gig for probably 18 months.”

“We’ve played all around the world,” he said. “Glastonbury, Wembley Stadium. All these amazing venues, America, New Zealand, Australia, Asia, South America - it’s been a wild one.”

“I was told before I came on that now at the end of this tour, I’ve played to nine million people around the world,” Ed continued. “It is the biggest tour ever.”

“It’s been an emotional day for a lot of people backstage,” the singer added. “It kind of feels like, in a weird way, that you’re breaking up with a girlfriend that you’ve been with for years. It sounds odd but it has been a long tour.”

Ed also added that the Ipswich concert could be his last ever loop pedal tour. He told the crowd that when he does return to the stage, he’ll do it with a band on board.

“I want to say thank you to everyone on this tour,” he concluded. “Thank you to every who has given me a chance. This is my last song. I wrote this when I was 15 years old. See you in a few years’ time. Thank you.”

Two years is definitely a long time to be on tour and we’re happy that Ed will be taking some time to himself. We’re thinking out loud here but it sounds like a well-deserved break!

Here’s wishing that Ed will dive fully into his life with Cherry and be the happie(r)st he can be!
