The powerlifter who portrayed Ser Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in Game of Thrones recently broke the world record at his gym in his homeland, Iceland.

Hafthor set a new record by lifting 501kg barbells for two seconds and dropped the weights while roaring in pride of his accomplishment and tbh, so did we!

Previously, Hafthor – who stands at 2.05m tall, won the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2018.

“I’m extremely proud you know,” the powerlifter said regarding his record-breaking feat. “I’m extremely happy.”

“It’s great – there’s nothing better than proving people wrong,” he said. “So many people didn’t believe in me, so many people that said, ‘501kg is never going to go up’… But I also had a lot of support.”

“I feel healthy, I feel good,” he added. “I’m just absolutely speechless, even though I’m talking a lot now. But I’m excited, super excited – this is huge for me.”

The deadlifting record was previously held by Eddie Hall who became the first man to lift 500kg in 2016.

Congratulations Hafthor!
