You've heard the news. It's all over social media. Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson have broken up. But were there signs of the impending doom? Let's take a look.
The couple began dating in May, and were engaged by June. Ariana and Pete first met in 2016 when the singer hosted and performed on Saturday Night Live (SNL). Ariana apparently "had the biggest crush in the world on him the whole time—like forever," and knew she wanted to marry him. Pete told GQ that he felt the same way: "The day I met her, I was like, 'Hey, I'll marry you tomorrow.’"

So, how did the ex-couple go from head-over-heels in love to calling off the engagement and breaking up? As reported by E! News, there were "some subtle indications about their relationship status as of late".
The first signs came when Pete covered up one of his Ariana-related tattoos on his neck. His "Dangerous Woman" mask tattoo was turned into a heart.

Ariana, on the other hand, has remained out of the spotlight recently. After the death of her ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, the singer has been quieter on social media and has refrained from attending public appearances. The then-couple didn’t attend the 2018 Emmy as Ariana needed "time to heal".
However, the singer did adopt a pet pig she named Piggy Smalls, of which Pete got a tattoo of on his torso.

Ariana has had a particularly tough year. She caused some concern amongst her fans when she tweeted, “Can i pls have one okay day. just one. pls."

Responding to the overwhelming love from her fans, she justified her tweet saying, "Er angels in my life. it's just been a tough month. i'm trying to get my work done and get back to normal and it's hard and i'm human and tired. sorry i let u in or worried u. i shouldn't have tweeted. i kno better." Sign number two?
Other than some outings with friends and working on music, September was a tough month for Ariana. She stayed away from performances, public appearances and at the very last minute, she dropped out of performing on the Season 44 premiere of SNL—the same show her ex-fiancé performs on. Could this be sign number three?

Despite dropping out of the performance, the singer was right by Pete's side to support him as he and his fellow cast members took the stage. Ariana remained supportive before the SNL season premiere and the week after, but remained quiet on social media for the latest episode. Another sign perhaps?
The final sign of trouble before the big break up saw Pete deleting his Instagram account just before the news broke. Ariana too hadn’t been posting any pictures or videos of Pete over the past few days.
Should we have seen the break up coming? Maybe…
