K-pop fans have always been protective over their favourite bands and groups, but BLACKPINK fans are angry now after member Lisa was scammed by her former manager.
Lisa from BLACKPINK was reportedly scammed of approximately RM3.2 million (1 billion KRW) by her ex-manager.
While the name of the manager was not revealed, the now-former manager known as “A” took advantage of the singer’s trust and took the money that he promised would be used for real estate investments, and allegedly blew it all on gambling.
Korean media outlet Market News reported that the manager was a long-time employee at the South Korean entertainment company, YG Entertainment and has been managing the group since their debut.
Inside sources revealed that Lisa is currently struggling to deal with fear and anxiety that came after the betrayal.
YG Entertainment confirmed the news with a statement that reads, "after an internal investigation, we have learned that Lisa was scammed by her former manager, 'A'.”
“Due to Lisa's wishes to bring the matter to a settlement quietly, as 'A' was a manager whom Lisa trusted; 'A' has repaid a portion of their debt and will be repaying the remainder of the amount accordingly through a repayment plan. 'A' is no longer an employee of the company.
We would like to bow our heads in apology for causing severe concern to many fans who love our artists. We are currently greatly disconcerted over 'A's actions, taking ill-advantage of an artist's trust; we feel the significant weight of the responsibility and the misdirection of this.
We will prepare preventative measures to ensure that such a concerning event does not happen again."
The manager is said to have taken advantage of Lisa because she’s a foreigner and vulnerable, and the rest of the members too are hurting from the betrayal because they all relied and trusted the ex-manager.
Fans are in shock at the managers actions and are concerned about how Lisa is coping with the situation. Many are also questioning the entertainment company’s solution to the issue and urge them to protect their artists better.
It’s hurtful and traumatizing when one is faced with scam, but it hurts more when you’re betrayed by someone that you’ve trusted for years.
We hope Lisa can recover from this and along with the rest of the group, can overcome the damages from the incident.
