Sunsets are usually gorgeous. You’ll definitely stop on your tracks just to capture one of the most alluring sunsets ever and post it up on your Instagram. Sometimes, you may think you’re not in the right spot but that doesn’t you can’t take a great photo.

However, NYC photographer, Chrissibeth shared some tips on how to capture the sunset ‘gram of your dreams.

  1. Turn on the gridlines.

This helps with your composition of the shot symmetrically.

  1. Use the AE/AF lock function on your phone.

AE/AF stands for exposure/focus. All you need to do it tap just around the sun. It will adjust the exposure. But do not tap the sun itself; the exposure will be too dark! Don’t tap on the buildings or street because you’ll get an over-expose image.

  1. Use headphones/earphones with adjustable volume.

Here’s a hack you might not know. The volume buttons on your phone also takes a picture when you’re using the camera app. If you plug in your headphones, the volume buttons allows you to take a shot. It helps to reduce shake.

  1. You NEED TO stand VERY STILL!

If you shake when you’re trying to take the picture, your photo will look blurry. Make sure to hold your phone still and take the shot with your headphones so you shake less.

  1. NEVER use the zoom on your phone!

It degrades your image quality. The zoom will cause you to lose the image stabilization and the image sensor. Zoom with your feet instead.

  1. Don’t use flash.

Turn off your flash! It will only wash out your foreground and leave your background underexposed.

  1. Always turn on HDR, but also “keep normal photo”.

HDR takes three photos in rapid succession with one normally exposed, one slightly under and one slightly over-exposed. The phone will layer the pictures and you’ll have the final outcome that has all the highlights of a bright with details of a darker image.
