#1 Coating boiled vegetables in oil

Boiled vegetables lose water through steam, which could dry them out. Coating them in oil or butter helps trap the steam, keeping the vegetables moist.

#2 Wash berries in lukewarm water

When you buy fresh berries, the first thing you want to do before storing them is washing them in lukewarm water (specifically 51°C), which is hot enough to kill any mold on the berries without damaging them.

#3 Add aromatics to fish

Grilling is a great way to prepare fish, but if you don’t want your house to smell fishy, you could add an aromatic ingredient to it to reduce the odour. Some good examples include onion, garlic, and ginger.

#4 Put oil in pasta

A little oil in a pot of boiling pasta can help prevent the noodles from sticking together. Simply add a spoonful or two of oil, and lift the noodles through the water to lubricate them.

#5 Add baking soda to boiled eggs

When you’re hard-boiling eggs, a spoonful of baking soda in the boiling water will make the shells easier to peel off. Putting the eggs in the fridge after boiling will also help firm them up and make them easier to peel.
