The word ‘minimalist’ is something people throw around as a sweeping statement without thinking much about it. Then there are those who assume being a minimalist is living a ‘poor man’s life’—but that’s not it at all. Living as a minimalist can give you a simple life that brings a better sense of content, purpose and fulfilment… and If that’s something you want, start adding these habits into your daily routine:
#1 Buy only if you need it
E-commerce has made it so easy for us to buy things impulsively, especially when we’re constantly bombarded with sales and discounts online. With every “20% off” and “free delivery”, you end up with a bunch of random items that you don’t actually need!
Stick to buying what you really need now, not just something you think may be useful later… because we all know you’re probably only going to use it twice.
#2 Apply the one-in-one-out method
Before you consider getting your hands on that newly-launched gaming console or that limited edition reusable face mask, look around to see whether you already own something similar.
Simply live by the one-in-one-out rule: when a new item enters your home, a similar item must leave. Recycle or dispose it if it’s no longer functioning.
#3 Create daily to-do lists
Sometimes, multitasking is inevitable. There are times when we just have multiple places to be throughout the day. This is where schedules and to-do lists come in handy.
Focus on tasks and activities that are most important and add value to your life. Make careful decisions about where and how you spend your time. As this practice becomes a habit, you’ll find yourself becoming more productive.
#4 Aim for quality, not quantity
This may sound like a broken record because we hear this so often, but it takes a lot more effort to actually apply “quality vs quantity” in our lives.
Instead of owning 10 different types of phone casing or a whole bunch of notebooks, keep one or two that you reach for the most and get rid of the rest.
#5 Declutter your space
It’s been a couple of years since Marie Kondo’s “spark joy” method became the talk of the town when it comes to decluttering. But the concept still rings true today.
It doesn’t matter whether you choose to dispose or recycle, as long as you clean your home and create more space for yourself. Decluttering your physical environment is a proven method that helps clear your mind as well.
#6 Save more, spend less
It’s never a bad thing to save for a rainy day because just as 2020 has shown us, we never know what’s going to happen.
Start creating a realistic monthly budget that allows you to save more money than spend. There are plenty of tips and tricks you can find online that teach you how to save and grow your cash.
No doubt, this habit is easier said than done. Nevertheless, there are ways to spend less and get more! When it comes to mobile data, you can allocate a minimum budget without having to compromise on your usage.
