Automatic transmission, local car drivers may or may not have noticed the mysterious ‘shift lock’ button located next to your gear stick. We bet you guys had no idea what the button was for though.
Well, the shift lock button is actually a safety feature!
The shift lock button allows your transmission to be released from ‘Parking’ mode. As in, in any event where you have to move your gear stick out of ‘Parking’ mode, but you can’t turn on your car (usually during a breakdown like when your battery dies).
Here’s how you use it:
1. Your car must be switched off and your transmission in ‘Parking’ mode.
2. Remove your car keys from the ignition.
3. Press and hold the shift lock button. At the same time pull your gear stick from ‘P’ mode to ‘N’ mode
4. Release the shift lock button
5. Release your handbreak
Now, you or any tow truck guy can push and move your car around easily without having the engine on!
