Meeting your friends might be easy when you’re in school or university but it’s often harder when you start working. But research says that we should meet our friends at least twice a week!

If you’re out ranting with your friends or maybe just talking nonsense, you’ll often feel happier after and now research proves that it’s good for your health too!

Dr. Robin Dunbar, professor of evolutionary psychology at The University of Oxford conducted a research and said that, “the figure of twice a week comes from our findings that this is the amount of time that you typically spend with your closest friends/family.”

“For both sexes (no surprise) having a large, well-integrated social network has a significant impact on both physical and emotional health. People with larger and/or more integrated networks suffer less illness, recover quicker from surgery, are less likely to die — and even their children are less likely to die.”

And it’s more so for girls! The University of California also conducted a research and found out that women tend to have a broad biological coping mechanism for dealing with stress.

Women will seek out social contact and support, especially from other females and also protect and nurture their young when under stress. And the behavior is called, “tend and befriend.”

So if you’re ever feeling stressful or anxious, just hang out with your friend(s) and it can help you be healthier and happier!
