Did you just start college and recently moved into your own rented space? Maybe you share the space with some housemates/roommates?

Either way, you most likely have some kind of kitchen to prepare your food right?

Well, do yourself a favour and don’t EVER throw any of these things down the drain in your sink.

Trust us, its better to go the extra (but super short) mile of throwing these things in the bin. Rather than risk having a clogged drain, and a broken sink. Or worse, dirty water overflowing onto your floor and having to clean that up (ugh!)

Rice and pasta.

You might think, oh, they’re tiny. They shouldn’t  pose a problem. WRONG. Did you forget that rice and pasta expand when there’s water?!

Eggshells

Just because you break the eggshells into tiny little pieces, that doesn’t mean they won’t get stuck. Eggshells tend to get stuck to one another.

Flour

You might think “oh, this is just powder, confirm OK one lah!” Nope. Water plus flour turns into a mushy, sticky, glue-like mixture. They don’t just clog drains by themselves. Other things can get stuck to them as well.

Medicine

You might think that medicines dissolves easily in water. In actual fact, they don’t dissolve as easily as you might think. Those capsules just become soft and sticky. Then the medicine inside them will slowly seep out and contaminate your wastewater. Come on, you don’t want to be that person do you?

Hair

Hair tends to be the most common reason why pipes get clogged. Hair that gets stuck inside drains form balls that act as a net to trap other waste. Next time you clean hair from your brush, just throw it into the bin.

Stickers from fruits and jars.

These stickers have glue on them and are made up of things that take a long time to decompose. They’ll stick to the walls of your pipes and form lumps.

Cigarette butts

The filters of cigarette butts are synthetic. When exposed to water, they absorb and expand. The worst part about cigarettes is that they won’t ever dissolve. Also, cigarettes have a tonne of chemicals in them which also contaminate your wastewater.
