Naming your child is a big part of becoming a parent. Name them the wrong thing, and you could set them up for a lifetime of insults.
Take this gentleman from Tangerang in Indonesia, for instance. For nearly 30 years of his life, he has lived under the name Kentut, which refers to flatulence in Indonesian. When he got married, his son was often reluctant to go to school because he was made fun of by his friends.
Thankfully, that’s about to come to an end. The Tangerang State Court has allowed his application to have his name changed. As of Monday, he is no longer known as Kentut – he is now Ihsan Hadi.
“Thank goodness, the court has allowed me to change my name,” he said afterwards. “I will feel so much more confident now, and my son won’t be embarrassed because his dad has a better name.”
According to Ihsan, no one knew why his father named him Kentut when he was born in 1988. He had wanted to change his name ever since he was a child, but no one in his village knew the legal procedure.
