Unfortunately, their attempts have been futile as they go up against the guards at the Onomichi City Museum of Art in Hiroshima, Japan. Their persistence however, won the hearts of netizens.
The adorable game of cat-and-guard first started in 2016 when the museum ironically hosted a cat photograpy exhibition called "Cats - Mitsuaki Iwago Photography Exhibition."
As visitors made their way to the exhibition through the front door, so did a black cat - Ken Chen. However, the cat was spotted by the guards and quickly shooed away. The adorable scene was captured by Twitter user, @mikusuke, and posted.
Since then, the black cat has been trying to get inside the museum every week for the past two years. Somewhere along the way, the cat brought a friend - Gosaku.
The red cat adopted the black cat's routine and they started taking turns showing up at the front door at least two or three times a week. The cats ongoing battle with the museum guards have been well documented on Twitter by fans of the pair.
So far, none of their attempts have worked. However, their persistence made them so popular that the museum has adopted them as the official mascots and now sell memorabilia at its gift shop!
Twitter user, @jiffington, said that the museum security guards sometimes spend most of their days trying to prevent the two cats from achieving their goal. The guards are always gentle when removing them and even give them strokes behind their ears.
No one has any idea why the two cats keep coming back the museum, but everyone loves watching their attempts!
Maybe they should let them in just once?
