As Malaysians, we love durian. From the smell to the taste to the texture, we’ll have durian at any time we can! Unfortunately, that’s not the case for everyone.
A durian recently caused the evacuation of The University of Canberra’s library after the smell caused a panic amongst those gathered.

The Fire and Rescue teams in Canberra responded to calls of “a strong smell of gas” inside the university’s library. 550 people were evacuated in under six minutes.
A statement was then released by the emergency services saying that the hazardous materials crew were searching the building and were conducting “atmospheric monitoring.”

The cause of the “strong smell of gas” was discovered within the hour.
“Firefighters have completed a search of the building and located the source of the smell,” the emergency services department said. “The library is now being reoccupied and the building has been handed back to University of Canberra staff.”
Library staff , who were then allowed back into the premises, revealed that the source of the odour and commotion came from a durian.

According to the staff, a rogue durian was left near an air vent on the library’s second level.
After the offending fruit was removed and sealed in a bag for disposal, the university’s library posted on its website that the coast was clear.
“We are open!” the post read. “The lingering gas-like smell in the building is completely safe – someone left a durian fruit in one of our bins!”
We can’t help but to laugh at the whole situation, TBH. What would you have done if you were in the library and smelled durian?
