But sometimes, we need a little more than the adorable puppies and kitties we see so frequently on the Internet.

So, if you’re having a bad day, or even if you aren’t, here are 8 underrated cute animals to make it better.

#1: Bat

When you mention the word “bat”, most people immediately think of vampires – tall figures in cloaks that turn into bats and fly off into the night. What few people realise is that some bats can be cute – just look at that velvety-soft fur, and those shining eyes!

#2: Seal

In many languages, including Malay (anjing laut), the word for seal often translates literally to “sea dog”, and it isn’t hard to see why. Swap those fins out for legs, give them a pair of ears, and voila, you have a dog! So if you love land dogs, you’ll definitely like their aquatic cousins!

#3: Owl

Owls are often portrayed in folklore as wise, intelligent creatures. They are considered to be the ideal nocturnal predator. But that doesn’t mean they don’t have their silly and adorable moments, many of which are guaranteed to bring a smile to anyone’s face!

Snakes get a lot of bad press, but although some species are deadly, others are harmless, and many people keep snakes as pets. And sometimes, these slithery little reptiles get themselves into situations which make them look adorable.

Sloths tend to be forgotten by most people, simply because they don’t do much. They spend most of their lives in trees, moving only when necessary. Something about their chill demeanour can be quite calming – if only we could spend all our time hanging around like them!

Like snakes, mice have a bad reputation as pests and disease carriers. Few people realise, however, that mice are highly intelligent and social animals, making them great pets. It also helps that they’re super adorable.

Red pandas are often overlooked because of how rare they are. These cousins of the raccoon only inhabit a certain region of the world and are considered endangered, which is unfortunate because look how cute that face is!

#8: Frog

Once upon a time, a princess kissed a frog and it turned into a handsome prince. We can’t guarantee that the same thing will happen with other frogs – in fact, some species are poisonous, so kissing them would be a bad idea! But maybe we don’t need them to turn into princes – sometimes, the frogs are cute enough as they are!
