A man, who was attempting to kill a “huge wolf spider” with a torch lighter – a large type of cigarette lighter that emits a pressurised blue flame – may have ended up starting a fire that damaged his apartment and forced the residents to move out.

According to the Redding Record Searchlight, the fire started on Sunday when the flaming spider scurried on top of a mattress, which caught fire. The flames then spread to the curtains and a collection of flags.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the blaze and the firefighters were able to quickly bring the second-story fire under control. The fire reportedly caused US$11,000 (RM44,104) worth of damages.
It has not been confirmed whether or not the spider survived.
So the next time you’re considering turning a spider into a ball of flame, you might want to rethink your plan.
