The month-long World Cup tournament has finally come to an end with France coming out as champions after defeating Croatia in the final with a score of 4 – 2!

And for a match as big as this, there are surely a few details that we might miss out. So, here’s a breakdown for the finals:

#1 Scene from the Eiffel Tower

The crowd at the World Cup in Moscow was amazing, but French fans topped it as they gathered to watch the final at the foot of Eiffel Tower!

#2 Nike predicted France’s win a month before the final

Nike already started producing the limited-edition with two stars—symbolising two World Cup wins, a month prior to the final! As many as 20,000 shirts have already been produced and that shows how much Nike trusts France to take home the trophy!

Back in 1998, their then-supplier Adidas waited a whole week before the updated shirts went on sale.

#3 The World Cup bodyguards

Before the World Cup trophy ended up with France, the trophy was guarded by two security staff and then escorted it into the stadium.

The trophy was created by Italian artist Silvio Gazzaniga and it’s worth US$20 million (RM80.76 million)! Names of the winning team will be engraved on the base of the trophy at the end of every World Cup!

#4 Croatia’s goody bag for France

Zlatko Dalic, Croatia’s manager, presented France’s manager Didier Deschamps with a goody bag with Croatia logo on it! They then hugged before the final match kicked off while a slightly embarrassed Deschamps gestured apologetically for not having a gift for Croatia.

#5 France’s goalless striker

France’s Olivier Giroud was featured in all seven matches for France in the World Cup 2018, but failed to score and register a single shot on target.

#6 Mbappe leaving his mark

19-year-old Kylian Mbappé becomes the first teenager to score in a FIFA World Cup final since Pelé!

#7 Giezmann lying eyes

Griezmann took the penalty shot that scored France’s second goal and he made eye contact with Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic before lying with his eyes. He eyed the bottom left corner of the keeper’s goal, but shot at the other side of the net instead, tricking the goalie and scoring the goal! Cheeky.
