In yesterday’s final match, the badminton star put on an incredible show and emerged champion against defending champion Viktor Axelson from Denmark, beating him 30-29, 20-22, 21-9.
The 22-year-old national player clinched his maiden title at the tournament in a final match that took place over one hour and 14 minutes at the Arena Birmingham in Birmingham, UK.
Zii Jia’s scintillating performance ended Malaysia’s four-year title drought at the All-England where the last national player who won the title was Dato’ Lee Chong Wei in 2017.
Those who caught the brilliant match will know that the 22-year-old kept pace with Denmark’s defending champion and fought brilliantly in the opening game winning 30-29.
In the second game, Zii Jia was shown just what he was up against when Viktor struck back and won the match 22-20.
It was in the final deciding game that Zii Jia brought his all and took an impressive lead of 11-5 at the interval and by the end of the game, he emerged victorious by winning the championship title by 21-9.
