With only one day left to vote for Datuk Nicol Ann David to become The World Games’ “Greatest Athlete of All Time’, Malaysians will be delighted to know that our beloved squash champion has taken a huge lead in votes!
At the time of writing (6pm, 31st January), the athlete has amassed a total of 290,494 votes.
The impressive amount of votes has put the squash queen in the lead with her closest competitor Larysa Soloviova from Ukraine obtaining 128,285 votes – that’s over 162,200 votes more for our Malaysian athlete!

By now, you’d know that Malaysia’s own squash queen, Nicol David is in the running to be awarded as the World Games’ Greatest Athlete of All Time!
After 12 days of voting, Nicol has made it into the top 10 and into round two of voting!
Fans of the squash champion will have until 1st February to VOTE for her to place number one and officially become the world’s GOAT.

Every Malaysian knows who Nicol David is and it looks like the squash queen could be on her way to become the World Games’ Greatest Athlete of All Time!

After announcing her retirement in 2019, the 37-year-old has been nominated by the World Games for their Greatest Athlete of All Time award.
The Penangnite who won three gold medals and one bronze at the World Games, is the only Asian amongst the 24 past and present athletes from different sports, who have been nominated for the honour.

Other athletes included in this list are Swedish archer Morgan Lundin, the Brazilian women’s beach handball team, Russian gymnastics legend Evgeniya Kanaeva, racquetball player Paolo Longoria, Dutch Jiu-Jitsu exponent Rob Haans and Sweden’s May Thai world champion Sofia Olofsson.
The World Games is a multi-sports event that’s staged every four years by the International World Games Association and hosts non-Olympic sports and events such as squash, floorball, lacrosse, sumo wrestling, Muay Thai and more.
Besides the medals Nicol took home during the World Games between 2005 and 2017, the squash queen also boasts eight World Championship titles and an unprecedented nine-year reign as world #1.

The 10 candidates with the most votes by 20th January will move on to the next round and the World Games’ Greatest Athlete of All Time will be crowned on 1st February.
