Datuk Lee Chong Wei just lost his chance at winning his first world title and Asian Games gold medal after so many years.

The local favourite is withdrawing his participation at the BWF Championships 2018 in Nanjing, China scheduled from 30 July to 5 August and the Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia scheduled from 19 to 28 August.

According to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) Datuk Lee is unwell and suffering from a respiratory related disorder.

Doctors have advised that Ching Wei rest and undergo treatment. For the time being, he cannot partake in any intensive physical activity for at least one month.

Lee’s participation in the upcoming games raised some doubts when he missed training since last Monday. Initially, people thought that he was absent due to burnout from back-to-back tournaments.

BAM has asked everyone to respect his privacy during this time. While it’s unfortunate that our national hero will be missing out in the upcoming tournaments, we wish him a speedy recovery.
