The queen of squash, Datuk Nicol David has announced that it’s time to officially hang up the racquet after over 20 years in the game.
The 35-year-old and eight-time world champion will officially retire at the end of the 2018/2019 Professional Squash Association season in June.
"This is a moment that every athlete must go through – to explore fully on what more there is in store for them. I am now at this point in my life, ready to take on more beyond the pro tour,” Nicol said.
Datuk Nicol David will end her illustrious career with 81 Professional Squash Association titles from 102 finals.
She has also held the World No.1 spot for a record of 109 months consecutively from 2006 to 2015.
We are truly grateful to have witnessed the excellence of Nicol Ann David in our time. To redefine the sport of squash is truly an amazing feat.
Our friends at Astro Radio News also caught up with the champion to talk about the decision and how she’s feeling.
We’re incredibly proud of all of Datuk Nicol David’s achievement and will be sad to see her go. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors!
