In the spirit of helping youth as well as encouraging the younger generation of today to be more active in sports, the Ministry of Youth and Sports have since come up with new and improved efforts to make real that vision.
Here are 4 of the initiatives.
1. Basic Sports Training Skills Programme (Klas Renang)
The Ministry wants you to be safe!
Early this May free swimming classes to B40 youth by the Ministry was offered, to decrease the probability of drowning. At phase 1 of the program, a total of 739 participants aged 6 to 12 years old, graduated with an average of 90% basic swimming skills. The lot came out braver, more confident and equipped with various swimming techniques.
Phase 2 began in September and is to continue till December 2023. Expanding to 36 locations across the country, the target number now stands at 5,760 young people. In addition, a separate branch of the initiative has also been created for the elderly and the disabled in selected locations throughout the states of Johor and Negeri Sembilan.
If you’re interested, all you need to do is fill up a form, and successful applicants will be contacted by an admin.
2. National Stadium Facilities For Youth
They’re all free besties!
Initiative #2 is opening stadiums under the Malaysian Stadium Corporation (PSM) for schools to use whenever they need to.
In July 2023, the Ministry of Youth and Sports announced that Bukit Jalil National Stadium, Jalan Duta Sports Complex and Bukit Kiara Sports Complex would henceforth be open for Sports Day’s or inter-school football competitions.
A total of 17/19 applications have been approved till December this year. In addition, the Ministry will also have a variety of free facilities for schools to do different leisure activities.

3. 1 Facility 1 Sport Initiative
Home is where the heart is!
For the sake of bringing home gold, the Ministry insists that all national sports associations (NSA) should have a home-base or a permanent place to practice. To help, they’re supporting NSA in their efforts to obtain permanent training facilities for the purpose of upping sports performance and talent.
The Ministry’s objectives are to improve management quality and optimize the use of all existing facilities, be it sports or other.
4. The Youth Capsule
And jobseekers… if you’ve got no place to go in the big big city, the Ministry has your back!
As an effort to help youths while they look for jobs and industrial training, the Youth Capsule (Y-Capsule) @IYCResidence has now been launched at the price of RM10/day.

The facility will include beds and bedding sets (blankets, pillows, pillowcases, sheets), toilets and bathrooms, pantries, communal cooking equipment (fridge, rice cooker, induction cooker), paid self-service laundry, rest rooms and ironing rooms.
