What better way to mark International Women’s Day than with a big win from two Malaysian women?
Malaysian badminton women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah have made us proud once again by being crowned the first-ever Malaysian women’s doubles champions at the Swiss Open!

At the recent Swiss Open, the Malaysian duo stunned world No. 14 Gabriela Stoeva-Stefani Stoeva of Bulgaria by beating them 21-19, 21-12 in their maiden World Tour final at St Jakobshalle, Basel, Switzerland.
Pearly-Thinaah who are ranked No. 30 in the world, enjoyed a solid start with their aggressive attacking game and built up an eight-point lead. Though the Bulgarian sisters were able to narrow the gap, the Malaysian pair held on to their lead to win the first round.

Pearly and Thinaah did not let down their guard in the second game and continued to show off their skills against the world No. 12 and managed to bag their first major title.
The duo didn’t only become champions of the Swiss Open, they also made history by becoming the first-ever Malaysians to win the women’s crown since the tournament’s inception in 1955.
The last time Malaysia enjoyed a victory at the Swiss Open was in 2009 when Lee Chong Wei and men’s doubles pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong emerged as champions in the men’s singles and men’s doubles respectively.

Pearly and Thinaah are projected to rise to No. 22, thanks to yesterday’s victory, when the world ranking lists are updated today.
