Kobe Bryant was no doubt a legend on and off the court but as we all know, his life was unfortunately cut short when he and his daughter Gianna Bryant tragically loss their lives in a helicopter crash earlier this year.
And in “respect” for the late basketball icon, the Mamba Sports Academy has officially retired “Mamba” from its name.

The Mamba Sports Academy recently announced that it would be dropping the “Mamba” from its name out of respect for the late Los Angeles Lakers legend.
The sports academy was launched in 2018 as a joint athletic-training business venture between Kobe and Sports Academy CEO Chad Faulkner.
Now, the name of the academy has officially been changed back to the Sports Academy, complete with a new website and logo rebranding.

As many will know, “Mamba” was part of the basketball icon’s nickname, “The Black Mamba,” which he gave himself to separate his professional life from his personal life.
According to a statement by the renamed Sports Academy, the decision for the name change came from a mutual decision between it and Kobe’s estate.
“Today, with respect for an unparalleled legacy, the Academy will retire the ‘Mamba’ in the Mamba Sports Academy name – to raise it to the rafters, where it belongs,” the statement read. “Sports Academy’s mission remains unchanged. Sports academy is still here to transform and progress the way each of us approach human performance. Sports Academy is still here to support current professionals and guide the next generation of athletes.”
RIP Kobe. Mamba forever.
