Facebook users, a new change could be coming your way soon and it’s definitely a change for the better.

According to new reports, Facebook could begin hiding its “Like” counter just like Instagram has done, soon.

Instagram has already begun testing its new feature in seven countries including Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Instead of a total number of likes, the post only shows a few names of mutual friends who’ve liked the post.

The idea of beginning this new feature was to prevent users from destructively comparing themselves to others.

“We want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get,” Instagram said when it first began the testing.

Now, Facebook is said to be following Instagram’s lead in trying to curb the “like” culture.

App researcher, Jane Manchun Wong, first spotted Facebook prototyping the hidden Like counts in its Android app. She found that the new feature hides the exact amount of likes on a post from everyone but the original poster, other users will only see likes or reaction emojis from mutual friends.

Facebook confirmed to TechCrunch that “it’s considering testing removal of Like counts. However it’s not live for users yet.”

The social media platform has used the “Like” feature as a key part of its programming for over a decade now but users have increasingly complained that the feature affects their self-perception.

Users are constantly worrying about their posts not getting enough likes and some even refuse to post in fear of their posts not being received well. By removing the like count, Facebook is hoping to relieve some of that pressure.
