If you’ve received a notification to change your Facebook and Instagram passwords, don’t ignore it!
During a routine security review done by Facebook earlier this year, it was revealed that the social media network had left hundreds of millions of user passwords readable by its employees for years.

Due to the mistake, that was acknowledged by Facebook themselves, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is urging users to change their passwords on both Facebook and Instagram if they’ve been prompted to do so.
“Any process to change the passwords should be done on their web pages or applications,” MCMC said in a statement. “This is important, as there is a possibility of parties that will try to take advantage of this situation to con people through deception, disguise and phishing.”
The situation will continue to be monitored by MCMC who will also communicate with Facebook and Instagram on any issues that could arise.
So, if you get a notification to change your password on either Facebook or Instagram, do it immediately! If you’re feeling unsafe, you could even change your passwords right now!
Be sure to make your passwords difficult to decipher too! If you need more assurance, you can turn on the two-factor authentication on your apps too!
