Last week, the expansive range of new hardware specs for the PlayStation 5 was covered by Sony and lead system architect Mark Cerny in an hour-long livestream presentation.
The presentation revealed a wide array of fresh and exciting features like the SSD’s ability to load 5 GB per second, and its custom RDNA 2-based AMD GP.
However, with all the great new capabilities, fans were left wondering if they would have to give up all their beloved PS4 games when moving to the new console.
Thankfully, Sony has confirmed that “almost all” PS4 games will be backward-compatible.
“We believe that the overwhelming majority of the 4,000+ PS4 titles will be playable on PS5,” noted Sony’s Hideaki Nishino.

Players can also expect “boosted frequency” and “higher or more stable frame rates and potentially higher resolutions” when playing PS4 games.
Sony however has not specified as to exactly what conditions these PS4 games would be playable on the new console but they did note that each PS4 game’s compatibility will be assessed on a “title-by-title basis” which basically means that it will rigorously test hundreds of games in its huge catalogue.
We’ll just be here waiting patiently for the PS5 to be released, and you bet we’ll keep you updated with any news we find out!
