Social deception game, Among Us is getting its own virtual reality game!
Yeap! How exciting will it be…running around, getting betrayed by your friends and dying in space…in a real virtual experience?!
The announcement was revealed by Among Us developer, Innersloth during The Game Awards 2021.
The VR version of Among Us will be a first-person 3D experience, instead of a third-person 2D one, but the “core mechanics''of Innersloth’s original multiplayer game will still remain. This significant change is planned to enhance the user's experience and how people play the game.
As demonstrated in the trailer, getting space-murdered in first-person is much more of a jump scare than it is in third.
"We can’t wait for players to become Crewmates in a first-person environment," said Innersloth community director Victoria Tran.
Innersloth's small team aren't attempting to master VR programming all by themselves. Among Us' virtual reality adaptation is being made in collaboration with consulting firm Robot Teddy and VR development studio Schell Games.
"Schell Games has a legacy of creating award-winning virtual reality titles, and we couldn't be more excited to create a brand new Among Us experience for our existing fans and new players," said Tran.
"We're excited to take all the features players worldwide have enjoyed from Among Us and tailor them to a fully immersive experience in virtual reality," said Schell Games' Jesse Schell.
FYI, Schell Games is the creator of successful VR titles such as puzzle game I Expect You To Die and sword fighting experience Until You Fall - meaning Among Us' Crewmates and Imposters should be in fairly safe hands.

Among Us was first released in 2018, and became a phenomenon in 2020 among Twitch streamers and YouTubers.
Though the indie sleeper hit started off as a mobile game, it eventually spread to PC, Nintendo Switch, and is scheduled to arrive on PlayStation and Xbox on Dec. 14.
Now Among Us fans can anticipate backstabbing their friends in virtual reality as well. How fun!
Among Us VR will be available on Meta Quest, PlayStation VR, and SteamVR. No release date has been announced yet though, so you and your friends have a bit of time to save up for your headsets!
