ICYMI, the HUAWEI Mate50 Series was launched early November and it seems the smartphone brand is still very much in demand.

Queues were spotted outside of HUAWEI stores around the country on the first day of sale. Plus, the orange vegan leather HUAWEI Mate50 Pro Kunlun Edition was sold out on the very first day too! 😮

Besides the orange Kunlun Edition, HUAWEI also released two new variants this month—carbon black and silver—in response to requests from fans who wanted more subtle and classic colours.

But wait. What is the Kunlun Edition and what’s special about it?

Most glass panels used in the industry are only chemically toughened on the surface, which means they can only partially withstand the effects of outside forces. To increase its durability, one would need to add more layers to the glass display, but hey, nobody wants a thick brick for a phone.

So, to deal with this problem, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro Kunlun Edition is made using a really durable glass known as Kunlun glass.

HUAWEI collaborated with a glass specialist company and spent 4 years in research. They discovered that they could strengthen the glass by fusing nanocrystals—10 quadrillion-level nanocrystals, to be exact—right into its core. This increases the phone’s drop resistance by 10 times! Ah, finally, a phone for butterfingers.

But don’t just take our word for it—see it yourself:

It’s so legit, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro Kunlun Edition became the first smartphone to ever receive a 5-star certification for glass drop protection from Switzerland SGS, the world’s leading testing company.

So, it can withstand drops. But can the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro take epic photos?

For sure. HUAWEI’s Mate Series has always been about delivering the latest innovation and technology so you can expect nothing less. In fact, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro has been labelled as one of the best smartphones of the year because of its camera!

It’s got an 50MP Ultra Aperture XMAGE Camera. Or to put it in layman terms, the camera auto-adjusts so you can take great shots day AND night. It comes with 10 different aperture sizes so you can play around with the blur and depth of field for really pro photos.

There’s a low battery emergency mode so you don’t have to panic

If you have a habit of plugging in your phone but forgetting to turn the switch on (like us, ahem) and have to live on a dangerously low battery the next day, the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro can help you out a bit.

Whenever your HUAWEI Mate50 Pro battery drops to 1%, the low battery emergency mode will kick in, giving you enough power to last 12 minutes of calls or 3 hours of standby. That’s a lot for a mere 1%!

You CAN access Google Native apps on the phone too!

Ah, everyone’s favourite question: “Can use Google ah?” Yes, you can use Google Native apps on the HUAWEI Mate50 Pro via the LightHouse app.

LightHouse supports many of your favourite Google apps such as Google Photos, Instagram, Twitter and Reddit. It also supports multiple Google accounts simultaneously so you don’t have to log in and log out every time!
