Internet Explorer has been used by users for over 25 years… and now after its launch in 1995, it’s time to say goodbye.
Microsoft announced that it will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 beginning 17 August 2021 across its Microsoft 365 apps and services.
This includes support on services like Office 365, OneDrive, Outlook and more, with support for Microsoft Teams ending on 30 November 2020.
“Customers will have a degraded experience or will be unable to connect to Microsoft 365 apps and services on IE 11,” a post from the Microsoft 365 product team said.
“For degraded experiences, new Microsoft 365 features will not be available or certain features may cease to work when accessing the app or service via IE 11.”
The browser that had over 95% of all users on it back in 2003, has been criticized in recent years with users complaining that the browser is slow and calling it the “browser most used to download other browsers”.
With Internet Explorer gone, Microsoft hopes that the replacement - Microsoft Edge, which relies on Chromium open-source software, will help until IE 11 fully drops within Windows 10.
Many people are bidding farewell to the browser, with many still poking fun at it and others saying the new Microsoft Edge is much better than the old browser.
What’s your experience with using Internet Explorer? Let us know your thoughts on Microsoft killing off the browser!
