Some people would arguably say that the PlayStation 2 is THE best gaming console ever and it been 20 years since the console was released along with some of the best games ever!
And while you may have played the PlayStation 2 before there are a few things you might not know about the gaming console!
It’s The Best-Selling Console In History
The PlayStation 2 was considered as one of the best gaming consoles and it shows with over 155 million units sold worldwide, more than the PlayStation 4, with only 108 million units sold.
The Power Up Screen “White Towers”
It’s nostalgic thinking about the iconic PS2 boot screen but what you might not know is the “white towers” you see starting up the console actually represents how much you play!
Each “tower” represents a saved game file on your memory card and the longer you play the game to higher the towers. If you boot your PS2 without your memory card the towers will not appear!
It Can Play Burned Discs And DVDs
The console is not just capable of loading great games to play, it can also read burned discs and DVDs that allow players to use it to watch movies and load games on burned discs.
You Can Use It As A Computer
For people that might have chosen the PS2 over a PC, the console can actually be turned into a computer too! All you need to do is buy a cool package of a keyboard, mouse, Linux CD, Network Adapter, installation disc and a 40GB hard drive and boom, a PlayStation computer!
It Loads PS1 Games
Although players might experience issues saving progress without a PS1 memory card, you can load and play PS1 games on the PS2 console to relive those nostalgic moments from way back!
Horizontal Or Vertical (Yes, The Logo Too)
Traditionally set up to be horizontally placed on a flat surface, the PS2 gives players the option to either set the console up horizontally or vertically! And Reddit users were also freaking out recently for discovering that you can turn the PS logo too depending on which way you choose to set your console up.
Fight In Real Time And Motion Detection
The PlayStation 2 allows players to fight in real-time with an add-on called Thrustmaster that was created by a third-party company.
Cameras like Eye Toy can also be installed on top of your TV and have motion-detection function that works with a bunch of different game titles.
Play With Eight Players
Before the age of online gaming, PS2 offered an add-on called Multitap that allows up to eight players to play at the same time!
Whether you knew about these secrets or not, the PlayStation 2 definitely provided some of the greatest gaming experience for many (and we could never fill up the 8MB memory card).
And if you’re a fan of PlayStation 2 games, the new PlayStation 5 console was previously reported to be able to run all the games from previous PlayStation consoles too!
