The long-awaited PlayStation 5 console reveal is officially here!
Sony revealed the new white-and-black design for the PS5 console at the end of the Future of Gaming live event!
Two new designs were shown in the reveal – the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition.
The standard version comes with a 4K Blu-ray disc drive and the Digital Edition does not and it seems like players on the latter console will solely be running digital game copies downloaded from the PlayStation store.
The thinner Digital Edition PS5 will be cheaper than the standard edition with the removal of the drive but no price and release dates have been announced for the consoles yet.
The consoles were shown to be displayed vertically but a glimpse towards the very end of the live event show it displayed horizontally too, signifying that the console can be placed in both position like its predecessors.
Sony also revealed new accessories including a DualSense controller charging station, HD camera, Pulse 3D wireless headset and a new media remote!
The PS5 was previously revealed to be capable of supporting 4K visuals at 120Hz and SSD that will provide 825GB of storage and 5.5GB/s of performance. Check out the full specs below:
Epic Games also showcased the Unreal Engine 5’s tech demo running on the PlayStation 5 hardware, with extremely realistic and promising visuals.
While the PS5 is confirmed to be able to run over 4,000 PS4 games, fans are still waiting for Sony to confirm the previous reports on the console having backwards compatibility to all game titles to as far back as PlayStation 1.
The live event showcased new game title coming on the PS5, including two sequel games Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon 2: Forbidden West.
The game and console reveal is one of “a series of PS5 updates” months leading up to the actual console release that’s scheduled for “holiday 2020” so fans will have to wait a little longer for the confirmed price for PS5!
