Pre-orders for the long-awaited PlayStation 5 are finally here and while many were happy to get their hands on the console, some are having issues with their new PS5 consoles.
A game review-YouTuber ACG, recently shared that his PlayStation 5 unexpectedly broke after he experienced a storage glitch.
He tweeted that his PS5 was 100% dead after he experienced the storage rebuild issues others reported, but it escalated to full errors and network issues/boot when he was working with Sony to troubleshoot the console.
Besides the first known console bricking case by ACG, another reviewer Jeff Gertsmann also experienced some system crash issues.
He mentioned that having the new Spider-Man Remastered game running while putting the PS5 into rest mode “crashes the whole system” and forced him into the “repair your external drive” process when he started the console back up.
“Also every time I've had the PS5 go through that external drive repair sequence, it ends up on a black screen,” he tweeted.
“I have to hit the power button on the console itself to force it into rest mode, then it comes back up and asks me to file an error report, then boots normally.”
The two issues seems to stem from running games from external drives when the crashes occurred, and other players reported the same too.
Some gamers also felt like the console didn’t live up to the hype, with the console reportedly unable to support 1440p resolutions and saying that the 885GB SSD actually only has 667GB usable space.
It’s worth noting that a few faulty units typically occur during the first wave of console launches and the issues might not be the same for all units and can be fixed with system updates or patches most of the time, if it's not bricked.
Do you know anyone who has already pre-ordered or bought a PS5 console? Let us know if you’re getting it!
