Rumours of the Pokémon Tamagotchi first went around in early November, but the news was officially confirmed recently. Although this is the first time Pokémon and Tamagotchi have officially collaborated, it isn’t the first time The Pokémon Company has explored the possibility of a physical digital pet for players.
Inspired by Tamagotchi’s great success, the Pocket Pikachu was released in 1998. Fans were allowed to carry a tiny Pikachu in their pockets. In 2010, the company release the PokéWalker - essentially a pedometer that displayed a tiny Pikachu.
